Sword & Spoon Productions is working on a new documentary about how today’s school choice debate has its roots in anti-Catholic bigotry from the 19th Century. The film introduces viewers to the history of the first Blaine Amendment, which influenced a generation of legislative and constitutional changes that severely limit parental choice. Viewers will also learn how that history is playing out today, through the stories of several families who are committed to sending their children to Catholic and Protestant schools, but face true challenges as a result.
Sword & Spoon is making the film in collaboration with our institutional partner Pioneer Institute. Pioneer seeks to establish a powerful, new line of argument that is a direct attack on the nativist bigotry at the core of the anti-school choice movement.
